New Product Alert! And it’s FREE too!
i8Uranus is a straightforward, 8-voice polysynth with familiar, uncomplicated architecture, honoring real-world behavior and limitations typical of mid-1980s analog polyphonic synthesizers.
FREE, for the time being! Currently available in Windows VST2, VST3, and CLAP formats. (We’re saving to get a new Mac capable of compiling this project for Apple Silicon. Contributions are welcome and greatly appreciated at https://paypal.me/admiralquality)
This project is the first step in prototyping a modern code platform upon which to move our legacy plugin products into their futures. We still have a lot of work left to do in recreating their advanced GUI features (particularly support for all 3 VST mouse knob-modes, as well as features like snapping knob detents) and we’re going to do that with this product, which we’re offering for free to maximize our tester base.
All control ranges and response curves are best guesses and may be tweaked over time, so don’t get too attached to your patches just yet. (Still, please create them and send us your favorites!) Borrowed a lot of techniques from Poly-Ana, but there’s also some new DSP code in there, particularly the zero-delay filter. Envelope and velocity behavior are, again, best guesses as to how the digital/analog hybrid technology of the time behaved.
The voice is 99% there (we know, we forgot LO/HI range of the VCO-2 Range knob – next update!). Lots of room for optimization, so it should only get more CPU efficient from here. No oversampling tricks like our other products offer—if you want to do that, run your host project at a higher sample rate to render the synth parts out at. And yes, that’s self-noise and analog-drift you’re hearing and, no, sorry, you can’t tweak them, they’re hard-wired in. We’re embracing the limitations (and, we like to think, inspirations) of reality on this one.
Very much hope you like it. Enjoy!
